ACCENT MEDIA
2023
ACCENT Media is the student newspaper at Austin Community College (ACC), where the goal is to be the first reference for past, present, and future students at the college with accessible and easy to understand news.
The client wanted a revised logo and brand, that felt more eye-catching, less minimalist, and utilized common ACC elements- without straying too far from the original design.
THE GOAL
How do I create a design that's modern and traditional at the same time? My goal here is to refresh this brand, without losing the charm and history behind their beginning. With a brand that started out with only black and white, I also have to consider what colors I can add that will enhance the vision and not detract.

CONSTRAINTS
The client wants something that's not too far from the original, but moreso a refresh or modern pop. While the other deliverables had more time, the logo was under a quick deadline.
PROCESS
My design process for this project included a brief, fleshed out sketches, and digitals testing out some of the drafts. My client wanted something bold, easy to read, and simple.
I was inspired by the older designs of ACC, ACCENT's history, and what a vintage newspaper might look like- considering some of the elements I may be able to pull.
THE SOLUTION
Instead of the original sans serif, I utilized a serif to lean into the traditional newspaper style and pulled colors from the older ACC logo to symbolize the history the group has.
I created the halo to not only bring a progressive touch to the logo, but to also represent the goal of the news team- to reach all students, all campuses, and all voices.
ADDITIONAL DELIVERABLES
Along with the logo, over a much longer period, I developed this brand through business cards, press badges, and a full word mark.
